Overseas Supplier Check Report · Guide
Does a Gold Supplier badge on Alibaba mean the supplier is legit?
No. Gold Supplier is a paid membership on Alibaba.com: members complete a business verification when they join, but the badge does not confirm that the seller is honest, a factory, or good at delivering. Treat the badge as a starting point and check the business licence, the payee and the supplier's trade history yourself before you send money.
How to check a Gold Supplier yourself
- Read what each badge actually covers. Open the supplier's profile and note every badge separately. Gold Supplier is paid membership; Verified Supplier is a higher paid tier that Alibaba says includes on-site verification and an assessment report by third-party inspection companies such as SGS or TÜV, so open the report and read what was assessed and when.
- Count years of membership, not badges. The profile shows how many years the supplier has held membership. A long history is mildly reassuring, but a recently listed supplier selling an unusually wide range of unrelated products is a reason to slow down.
- Ask for the business licence. Request a clear photo or scan of the Chinese business licence. Check that the company name, the 18-character unified social credit code and the address match the store page and the quote or proforma invoice.
- Check the payee before paying. The bank account name on the invoice should be the same company named on the licence. If you are asked to pay a personal account or a differently named company, ask for a written reason and treat it as a red flag until it makes sense.
- Pay through the platform where you can. Paying through Alibaba.com with Trade Assurance keeps the order and payment on record with the platform. Moving payment off the platform at the supplier's request removes that record.
- Look for trade history outside the store. Search the supplier's English name on free US bill-of-lading search sites. Shipments to real US importers over several years suggest an established exporter; no results is common for smaller firms and proves nothing on its own.
- Order a sample before a bulk order. A paid sample shows the product, packaging and how the supplier communicates under a real order, at a small fraction of your exposure.
Signs that need an answer before you pay
- Prices far below other suppliers for the same specification
- Pressure to pay quickly or to pay off the platform
- Bank account name that differs from the licence name
- Company name containing Trading while claiming to be a factory
- Factory photos that also appear on other suppliers' pages (check with a reverse image search)
When a done-for-you pack helps
If you are about to pay a deposit and want a second pair of eyes, our report reads the licence and invoice you send, checks the unified social credit code structure and the consistency of names, address and payee, reads the business scope for manufacturing or trading terms, and searches public US import summaries, US federal court dockets and public complaints. You get red flags and questions to ask. It is a desk check, not a factory audit, not a direct lookup in China's registry and not a full sanctions screening.
No subscription and no extra fees. Delivered by email within 48 hours of your order. Covers one supplier in mainland China.

Questions
Is a Verified Supplier safer than a Gold Supplier?
It gives you more to read, not a promise. Verified Supplier involves an assessment by a third-party inspection company, so there is a report you can open and check for dates, location and what was looked at. It still does not confirm product quality on your order or that the payee is correct, so run your own checks as well.
Can a scam supplier have a Gold Supplier badge?
Yes, it is possible, because the badge is a paid membership rather than a review of conduct. Some fraud also happens through fake supplier emails or changed bank details on an otherwise real supplier's invoice. Confirm the payee name against the licence and confirm any change of bank details through a channel you already trust.
Does Trade Assurance cover me if I pay by bank transfer outside the platform?
No. Trade Assurance is Alibaba.com's built-in protection for orders placed on the platform. If a supplier asks you to pay directly to its own bank account outside the platform order, that payment does not go through Trade Assurance. Read the current Trade Assurance terms on Alibaba.com before ordering, since coverage details can change.
